For most of the day on Wednesday 26th March, fans (and non-fans) of the MCU have been following the cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday, which has been revealed through a five hour long live-stream, where the names of the cast are slowly revealed on the back of director’s chairs.
It’s certainly a unique marketing ploy, and seems to have worked, given te millions who tuned in across various platforms. There are some obvious names revealed, but also some that you might not have been expecting. Here’s the full list, and who they will be playing.
- Chris Hemsworth. He’s been playing Thor, god of thunder and Avengers member, in the MCU since 2011, with his self-titled movie. His last appearance was in Thor: Love and Thunder back in 2022.
- Anthony Mackie. Formerly Falcon, now Captain America, and presumably the de facto leader of the Avengers. His most recent appearance was in Captain America: Brave New World, which under-performed at the box office earlier this year.
- Letitia Wright. Black Panther, she takes over the mantle from her brother T’Challa following his death.
- Vanessa Kirby. Set to play Sue Storm in the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps.
- Sebastian Stan. One of the old guard, he’s been playing Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier since the first Captain America movie, and will return to the role this May in Thunderbolts*.
- Paul Rudd. Ant-Man/Scott Lang. His most recent portrayal was in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, from 2023.
- Wyatt Russell. U.S. Agent/John Walker. He held the Captain America title for a while in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and now rides with the Thunderbolts.
- Tenoch Huerta Mejia. He played Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
- Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Set to star as Ben Grimm/The Thing in Fantastic Four this summer.
- Simu Liu. Played Shang Chi in Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
- Florence Pugh. Yelena Belova, former Black Widow and adopted sister of Natasha Romanov, now a member of the Thunderbolts.
- Kelsey Grammer. Beast/Dr. Hank McCoy in the Fox X-Men movies, he appeared as the same character in The Marvels.
- Lewis Pullman. Set to play Bob/Sentry, in Thunderbolts*.
- David Harbour. Debuted as the Red Guardian, basically the Soviet Captain America, in Black Widow. Now a member of the Thunderbolts.
- Joseph Quinn. Going to appear as Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four this year.
- Danny Ramirez. Now the new Falcon following Sam Wilson taking on the role of Captain America.
- Winston Duke. Has been playing the role of M’Baku since Black Panther.
- Hannah John-Kamen. First appeared as Ghost in Ant Man and the Wasp, now a Thunderbolt.
- Tom Hiddleston. Plays Loki, Thor’s brother. He’s been in the MCU since Thor (2011), and also starred in his own self-titled Disney+ show.
- Patrick Stewart. Professor X in the Fox movies, he cameod as the character on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
- Ian McKellen. Played Magneto in the X-Men movies.
- Alan Cummings. Appeared as Nightcrawler in X2.
- Rebecca Romijn. Played Mystique in the original X-Men movies.
- James Marsden. Played Scott Summers/Cyclops in the X-Men mvoies.
- Channing Tatum. Appeared as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine.
- Pedro Pascal. Set to play Reed Richards in Fantastic Four.
- Robert Downey Jr.. Played Iron Man up until his death in Avengers: Endgame. Now he’s set to return as Doctor Doom, with a potential first appearance in Fantastic Four.
That makes a total of twenty-seven announcements, which is around half of what it was reported Marvel would reveal, so there’s a chance there’ll be another wave of announcements coming soon.
