It’s been announced that divisive Star Wars character Jar Jar Binks will return to the franchise in an original Disney Plus show.
In a press release, Lucasfilm revealed that a new series is in the works based around the unpopular character. The show will be led by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, creators of the new Netflix adaptation 3 Body Problem.
In the statement, the two show runners spoke of their enjoyment at being a part of the Star Wars universe, with Benioff saying, “Star Wars has been a big part of my life and I’m glad we’re getting to make our mark here. For me, Jar Jar has always been a misunderstood character, and I want to see him given the love he deserves.” While Weiss said, “After Thrones and 3 Body Problem, it’s great to do something that’s more comedy centred, but make no mistake, we’re going to throw some surprises at you with this one.”
First introduced in The Phantom Menace back in 1999, Jar Jar Binks immediately polarised fans. While some, particularly children, loved his slapstick comedy antics, others felt he was out of place in a Star Wars movie. Consequently, he had a much smaller role in later projects, and has been absent from the screen for over a decade, last appearing in season six of The Clone Wars back in 2013.
There’s been little revealed about the show, except that it will be live-action, and is expected to be set around the prequel era, though Ahmed Best hasn’t been confirmed to be reprising his role as Jar Jar. He returned to the franchise last year in The Mandalorian, playing Jedi Master Kelleran Beq during Order 66.

P.S. This is an April Fool’s Day joke, and sadly no Jar Jar series has been announced.
