Universal has revealed the release date for the latest entry in the ‘Jurassic’ franchise, currently titled ‘Jurassic World 4’. The studio released an image of the franchise logo with the date July 2, 2025.
It was recently announced that a new film was developed with original ‘Jurassic Park’ writer David Koepp penning the script, while ‘Deadpool 2’ director David Leitch is in talks to helm the film. There’ve been few details revealed about the movie, but it’s expected to take the franchise in a new direction, moving away from the ‘Jurassic World’ trilogy, and setting up a fresh era. Neither the original cast of Sam Neil, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum, nor the current leads of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are expected to appear.
The last time we saw the franchise on the big screen was back in 2022 with ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’. The third film in the rebooted property, it saw the world having to adapt to the presence of dinosaurs in everyday life after the creatures were transported from Isla Nublar to escape a volcanic eruption, and ended up breaking free on the mainland. While the movie had a mixed reception from fans who felt the franchise was running out of ideas, it was a commercial hit, bringing in over a billion dollars at the box office.
It’s likely any new movie would continue to work with the idea of humans and dinosaurs interacting, especially as the movie seems to be tied in to the ‘World’ trilogy, which makes a prequel or spin-off less likely.
Based on Michael Chrichton’s bestselling novel, the first movie was released in 1993, directed by Steven Spielberg. Since then the ‘Jurassic’ brand has become a huge success, with six movies grossing over six billion dollars worldwide, and leading to several video games, series, and toy lines.
