The Biggest ‘Ahsoka’ References in ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3

Things are really moving quickly with the Ahsoka show, with a release date of August 23rd on Disney+. With the ‘Mandoverse’ shaping up nicely, there were some references dropped in The Mandalorian season 3 as to what might be happening in the show.

Purgill

In episode one of Mando, while travelling through hyperspace with Din, Grogu senses something moving alongside and looks out to see several Purgill in hyperspace too. The last time we saw these space whales was in the finale of Rebels season 4 when Ezra Bridger summoned a herd of them to transport Thrawn’s Star Destroyer away from Lothal. Given Ezra’s deep connection to these creatures, it’s possible they’ll be essential for finding him in future, possibly leading Ahsoka and Sabine to his location.

Zeb

A big part of the hype around Ahsoka is the return of Rebels characters, particularly the Ghost crew. We got a small glimpse of this in The Mandalorian when Garazeb Orrelios appeared in a bar on the New Republic base. It was only a small cameo alongside Carson Teva in episode five, but it made a big impact with fans saying how well the transition from animation to live action was handled. With Zeb’s appearance, we’ve now seen all surviving members of the Ghost crew in live-action.

Captain Pellaeon

In the ‘Thrawn’ books, his right hand man is Gillad Pellaeon, an Imperial officer and captain of Thrawn’s Star Destroyer. In episode seven, we see Pellaeon in a meeting with members of the Shadow Council, a conglomerate of high-ranking Imperials, discussing various projects they are engaged in. There is also direct talk of Thrawn and what the Grand Admiral is planning, with some friction between Pellaeon and Moff Gideon over his command. Its the most obvious reference to the series and sets up Thrawn’s place as a key part of the Imperial remnant in the coming conflict.

There were other hints, too, such as Temeura Morrison appearing as the clones in the Order 66 flashback, giving a hint to his return as Captain Rex, where he’ll be wearing the same blue armour as the 501st. There was also the Mandalore storyline, which involved Ahsoka at the end of the Clone Wars, as well as Bo-Katan mentioning her own history with the Darksaber, something that involved Sabine in Rebels. While Katee Sackhoff has said she isn’t coming back for Ahsoka, it’s possible she will still put in an appearance and maybe have some scenes with Sabine discussing her duty to Mandalore.

Whether any of these things have an impact on the show we’ll have to wait and see, but from what’s been shown so far, it looks like it could be some of the best Star Wars content we’ve ever had.

Thanks for reading!
