After years of hoping, it looks like fans of the infamous Gungan are finally getting what they want. It’s been reported that Disney have green lit a new Star Wars show centered around Jar Jar Binks.

Details are scarce at the moment, but the official synopsis reads:

“Set after the fall of the Jedi, Jar Jar: A Gungan Story follows the title character as he goes on an adventure through the Republic, making friends and enemies alike, as he lays the seeds for what will one day become the Rebel Alliance!”

Jar Jar Binks was introduced in Episode I: The Phantom Menace, as a comic relief sidekick, and one of the first characters to be made fully in CGI. But he was a divisive topic for fans, many of who hated his over-the-top slapstick comedy, and childish antics, leading to his role in the next two prequels being cut significantly.

He had limited appearances in future stories, such as a few episodes of The Clone Wars animated show, but has been largely absent from most media, especially live-action, since 2005.

Now it looks like he’ll be coming back for a Disney+ show. It’s not confirmed if Ahmed Best will be returning to the role, but one rumour suggests that both Robert Downey Jr and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be appearing as “unnamed Gungans”.

All bets are off whether the many theories that Jar Jar is actually Force-sensitive will come true, but this is certainly a bombad bit of news!

Note: This is not true, it’s just an April Fool’s Day joke, and the millions of Jar Jar fans (myself included) will have to wait for the day they announce this for real. Maybe at Star Wars Celebration? Here’s hoping!
