As The Bad Batch races to its conclusion, we get the penultimate episode of season three which sets up what should be an exciting finale.
The Batch have made it to Tantiss aboard their commandeered shuttle but are shot down and crash in the jungle. This is different to what I was expecting, as they usually manage to successfully infiltrate Imperial bases only to encounter difficulties as they try to escape, so it certainly ramps up the tension for the final episode.
Meanwhile, Echo has managed to get inside the mountain disguised as a stormtrooper so could be the key to the whole operation, especially as he’s being helped by Emerie Karr. It’s taken her a while, but it looks like she might finally have decided to do the right thing and help Omega escape.
The biggest threat here is Rampart who was captured by stormtroopers while lost in the jungle. There’s no reason he should help the Batch, and could see this as an opportunity to clear his name by turning them in.
Inside Mount Tantiss, Omega is still imprisoned in the vault, and it looks like Dr. Scalder could be the big problem here. She’s more dedicated to her work than Karr and has no problem with treating the children as test subjects. Omega has her ow plans on how to escape though, and they seem to involve the Zillo Beast. This giant, indestructible creature first appeared in The Clone Wars where it rampaged across Coruscant before being killed. In season two of The Bad Batch, we see the Empire has successfully managed to clone it as part of Hemlock’s experiments.
All of this leaves plenty of room for speculation on how the show will end. There are several threads that need to be wrapped up, such as the identity of CX2, the fate of Hemlock, and what happens to Rex, Wolffe and Gregor to make them quit the fight. This isn’t just the end of the season, but of the whole show, so it will need to be a fitting climax to the three season arc. Given the ending of season two, we’ve seen that the show isn’t afraid to go in an emotional direction, so anything could happen.
