Spoilers ahead for episode six of AHS°KA.
The sixth episode of AHS°KA finally gives us the answer to a question we’ve been asking since the end of Star Wars Rebels, and reveals that the Star Wars universe might be a lot bigger than we realised.
Far, Far Away
Morgan Elsbeth has arrived at her destination aboard the Eye of Sion, and it turns out it’s actually the Nightsisters’ ancient homeworld of Peridea, and coincidentally the place where the Purgill return to die. This raises a lot of possibilities about the space whales, such as a possible connection to the Force, and also their use in early hyperspace travel, not to mention the existence of other galaxies within the Star Wars universe. Huyang referencing the classic phrase “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” hints at him being the chronicler of the entire saga.
Thrawn
The Empire’s finest Grand Admiral has made his return. Somehow he survived his trip through hyperspace and seemed completely unscathed and ready to return to his own galaxy and finish the work he started as an Imperial officer. His biggest enemy might seem like the New Republic, but it could also be the various remnants of the Empire, especially as Thrawn has created a highly-trained, extremely loyal army from his Imperial troops, supported by the mysterious Captain Enoch who gets away with a certain amount of ostentatiousness in his armour that the Empire would never have allowed. Usually when an Imperial gets a unique uniform, it means they’re something special, so I wonder just who (or what) Enoch is?
It’s very unlikely Thrawn has sat around for the past decade. No doubt he’s been working on a plan to rebuild the Empire and gain control of the galaxy. Could the Nightsisters be involved in some way? And what was in the crates he was loading onto his Star Destroyer? Certainly he seems to have a good relationship with them.
Return of the Jabba
Thrawn wasn’t the only established character to make a welcome return. Finally, after five years of waiting, we get to see Ezra Bridger again, proving he was right to put his trust in Sabine, knowing she’d come to find him no matter what.
We’ve yet to find out what happened to him after his disappearance with Thrawn, or how he ended up living among a tribe of Koopas. It’s likely he knows something of Thrawn’s plans and might even have been a part of them. That’s probably not the biggest problem for them right now, however, as they don’t have a clear way to get home, and it looks like Baylan doesn’t want them to. What exactly is the former Jedi looking for, and what will he do when he finds it?
War or not?
Ahsoka is now on her way to Peridea with a pod of Purgill, Thrawn’s biggest adversary, which will make things more difficult for the Grand Admiral, but will it be enough to stop him from returning and putting his plans into effect? What we do know is that Thrawn was always one of the biggest threats to the Rebellion, and always had a solution to every problem. Whoever ends up facing him will have a tough fight ahead of them.
