New ‘Ahsoka’ Trailer Reveals More Details About the Show

As we approach August 23rd, the hype for the new Ahsoka series is definitely growing, and now a new trailer has been released giving us another look at what to expect from the Disney+ show.

NOTE: this article contains speculation and theories about the Ahsoka series.

Dark Force Users

The two Force users Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati were in the trailer, giving a hint at their role in the show. They’re clearly a threat to the protagonists, and are shown killing New Republic troops mercilessly. Skoll also declares that they are not Jedi, which makes it more likely they tap into the Dark Side for their powers, doing away with the theory they could be Grey Jedi.

Where is Ezra

There’s still no sign of Ezra Bridger in the trailer, except as a hologram from Rebels. Why are they keeping him hidden? Is it because they’re setting us up for a surprise (or shock) when he’s revealed? I can’t think of any other reason, unless they don’t want to answer the question of whether Ezra is found or not.

There was a Purgill, the giant space whales that carried Ezra and Thrawn into hyperspace in the Rebels finale, though, which gives an indication that Ahsoka and Sabine are on the right track, and it’s possible that Ahsoka will be able to communicate with the creatures the same way Ezra did.

Master & Apprentice

It seems from the trailer that Sabine was Ahsoka’s apprentice in some way. It’s not clear whether this means she’s a padawan, or Force-sensitive in any way, but it does explain why she was wearing Ezra’s lightsaber, and there were suggestions in Rebels that she might be able to feel the Force, particularly in episodes like Trials of the Darksaber in season three.

From what’s shown, it seems that Sabine may have become Ahsoka’s apprentice sometime after Ezra’s disappearance, possibly after the Battle of Endor, and now Ahsoka returns during or after the events of The Mandalorian season two. It’s not really clear yet where the Rebels epilogue fits in all of this, though, but clearly the two have a strained master-apprentice relationship.

New Republic, Old Problems

It looks like Hera will be going up against the New Republic, trying to get them to see that Thrawn is a threat. Mon Mothma is the new Chancellor, but she’s also looking for peace after the destructive Galactic Civil War, and as we’ve seen in season three of The Mandalorian, they are reluctant to accept that what’s left of the Empire is a credible threat, and have demilitarised heavily in the past five years or so.

It’s good to see more of Lothal in the trailer, and get some brief glimpses of Thrawn and Chopper again, as well.as the mysterious Inquisitor. We also see Huyang, the ancient droid who helped Jedi build their lightsabers. His knowledge and experience will certainly be a great help to Ahsoka.

Whatever comes of any of this, we’ll have to wait until the first two episodes drop on August 23rd to find out, but from what we’ve seen so far, it looks like it’s going to be amazing.
