Many fan’s dreams have come true today, as Disney has announced a new series that will focus on the infamous Gungan from the prequel trilogy.

In an official announcement, Lucasfilm said that there is a series is the works which will begin filming later this year. Ahmed Best will return as the main character, following on from his recent appearance as Jedi Master Kelleran Beq in The Mandalorian.

It’s not yet known how many episodes there will be, or when we can expect a release date, but this is a huge revelation for the thousands of fans who have gathered around the character following years of hate and abuse directed at both Jar Jar and Best.

Further details in the announcement included the reveal that Bryce Dallas Howard would direct at least one episode, and Ian McDiarmid would have a part in it, though whether as Palpatine or the Emperor is unclear.

Lucasfilm spokesperson April Fowler said:

“We’re really happy to announce that Jar jar Binks will be receiving his own series. The character has had a lot of negativity directed towards him, but personally, we all love him very much here.”

Clarifying more details about the series, Fowler continued:

“The series will be set during Jar Jar’s time in the Senate, starting from a point around the time of the prequel trilogy, and continuing after that. It’s going to connect with existing series in some really interesting ways.”

This doesn’t give away too many hints, but it’s likely we’ll be seeing Jar Jar around the time between episodes two and three, as well as The Clone Wars. Whether it’ll continue into the Imperial era isn’t clear yet, but given the timeline, it’s likely we’ll see other popular characters returning, too. Not to mention the fact it will tie in with other series, possibly The Mandalorian or the upcoming Ahsoka. Whatever it turns out to be, it sounds like a great time to be a fan of Jar Jar Binks.
