*Spoilers for S3E4 ‘The Foundling’*

Another Wednesday, another episode of The Mandalorian, this week directed by Carl Weathers. This episode seemed a lot more solid than last week’s, focusing on the Tribe and their Foundlings.

The Foundling

I thought that the Foundling from Chapter 17 would make another appearance, given his small, but important, part in that episode. Him being Paz Vizsla’s son is unexpected as he wasn’t in the original Covert, so there must be some backstory there, regarding how he came to enter the Tribe.

Who does the title refer to? It could be Ragnar Vizsla, obviously, as the episode centres around his rescue, but it could equally apply to Grogu. He’s coming on as a Mandalorian, taking part in training and having his armour forged, but is it where he really wants to be? He wanted to return to Din, clearly, but is the life of a Mandalorian warrior really for him? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Maybe the title even refers to Bo-Katan, she’s not really a Foundling, but she is new to the Tribe, and learning how to live like one of them. It’s as much a journey for her as it is for Grogu, as shown by the scene at the campfire.

Order 66 and the Return of the Jedi

The Order 66 flashback scene finally answered a question that’s been on everyone’s mind for some time: who saved Grogu? The answer is definitely an unexpected one, as Kelleran Beq is an established character, but not one every fan would be familiar with. This will no doubt work in Disney’s favour if they decide to elaborate on the character in future, giving them a clean slate, especially as we don’t know whether Beq is dead by the time of The Mandalorian. Something must have happened to split him and Grogu up.

It really is great to see Ahmed Best returning. He deserves to be in Star Wars more, and hopefully he’s going to receive some love after years of being trashed.

Does his appearance mean they’re warming us up for a Jar Jar Binks return? It’s unlikely, but between this and Katee Sackhoff’s recent comments, I’m still holding out!

Focus

Bo-Katan is trying to get used to her life with the Tribe. I’m not sure she’ll stay there, but the Armourer forging her a pauldron is a nice touch, showing that she is now a part of them, but still a Nite Owl, maybe she’ll have to make a choice between the two.

Her admission about the Mythosaur gives more possibilities, including a return to Mandalore sometime this season. It’s definitely a big thing for Bo, and it’s all leading somewhere.

Just how big is her ship, though? She managed to fit the three baby raptors in with no problem. Maybe the Mandalorians have TARDIS technology?

With so many stories going on at the moment, and no mention of Gorian Shard or Ahsoka this episode, it’s hard to say where The Mandalorian will take us next week, but for now, it can safely say ‘This Is The Way’ with confidence.
