Even though it’s been almost 25 years since Jar Jar first appeared onscreen, a lot of fans still have mixed feelings about him, and it’s rare that anyone names him as their favourite Star Wars character, but that’s exactly what Katee Sackhoff just did.

The Bo-Katan actress recently appeared on the D23 Inside Disney podcast, where she discussed her role in The Mandalorian, including stunts, wigs, and her role in the latest season. While all that was very interesting, it wasn’t the biggest reveal of the interview. When asked who her favourite character (other than Bo-Katan) is, Sackhoff replied without hesitation, “Jar Jar Binks.”

She expanded on her choice, saying:

“I just think he’s funny, and his childlike glee is just really fun to me. And he’s all about making people’s lives easier, but he does just the opposite. He really just wants to be helpful but he’s terrible. Yeah, I love him I think he’s super cute.”

This kind of sentiment is a pretty rare one among any Star Wars fans, never mind someone starring in a major series like The Mandalorian. Could Sackhoff’s admission cause other big names to come out as Jar Jar fans? Perhaps her love for the character could lead to a revival of the character in future Lucasfilm projects.

While it might be too much to hope for an appearance of Representative Binks in The Mandalorian, the politician, soldier, and hero of The Clone Wars could finally be getting the love and recognition he deserves, and that can only be a good thing.
