Disney has announced that they will be making a miniseries starring the prequel character Jar Jar Binks.
The much-maligned Gungan first appeared in 1999’s The Phantom Menace, and received heavy criticism for his slapstick comedy antics. Now, Disney has announced that a series about the character will begin filming later this year.
There’s little information about the series yet, but it’s been confirmed that Ahmed Best will be returning to play Jar Jar, and there are reports that Benedict Cumberbatch has been in talks for a role. Ian McDiarmid will return as Chancellor Palpatine, and there’s speculation that a de-aged Natalie Portman may play Padme Amidala. Kenneth Branagh is confirmed as director, with Star Wars creator George Lucas onboard as a ‘Special Advisor’.
The 6-part series will be set between the events of The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, and is likely to follow the Gungan’s life as he enters into the world of politics as a Special Representative in the Galactic Senate.
There’s no release date set yet, but stay tuned and follow us on Twitter for more information on the series as it’s revealed.
Note: April Fool’s.
Sadly this is just a joke, Disney doesn’t have any plans to make a Jar Jar series any time soon. One day, though, one day.
